SEIU got a waiver from Obamacare. If this weren’t so infuriating it would be funny. From February, 2009 to 10:30 pm, March 31, 2010 I went to every Tea Party and Obamacare protest (generally, one in the same) within 100 miles, including two trips to D.C. I was in D.C. to protest the House vote in December 2009 and I was there the Sunday night (Pelosi held the vote then hoping we’d be gone) they passed Obamacare.
Never having protested anything in my life, I left my comfort zone and stood on street corners with signs I made, waving at cars, trying to wake up the rest of the sleeping giant. After the first few anti-Obamacare protests, buses started showing up at every protest filled with SEIU union members in their SEIU T-shirts. An organizer checked off their names as they got off the buses. They were given preprinted signs and there was bottled water for them. I spoke to many of them and was appalled at their lack of knowledge. I asked if they knew what was in the bill. They replied (almost in unison) there was no “bill”. Everyone I asked said there were four or five bills floating around. I informed them that the House passed a bill in December 2009 and they would laugh and say there was no bill. I asked them if they were OK with the government having access to their bank accounts for “real-time medical services payments” and to their IRS records and they all said that wasn’t true. I told them treatment would be denied (“death panels”) and they called me a fear monger. They all believed Obamacare would mean free healthcare for all, PERIOD.
When the Tea Party Express stopped at Griffith Park on one of its trips across the country, the police had to put up a barricade to separate the SEIU counter-protestors from the Tea Partyers. They yelled and shouted at us. Tried to drown out speakers.
On the night Obamacare passed, SEIU sent very large thugs to disrupt our protest and to try to incite violence. We were under a balcony at the Capitol singing and praying when about ten or more very large men charged to the front, between the balcony and us, with pro-Obamacare banners and taunted and shouted at us. The Capitol police formed a line between them and us. Some young women got on the shoulders of the thugs and shouted down at us. When the police escorted them away, several jumped into a group of us, hitting me on the back and knocking another woman down. The police wanted us to press charges, but neither the other woman nor I could come back and forth for hearings, etc. I asked the police if they thought they were trying to incite violence and they said they did.
Now that Obamacare has been shoved down our throats, guess who is getting a waiver? SEIU!! And so are 111 companies and businesses…..interestingly enough, all big contributors to Obama. How is this “equal protection under the law”? SEIU is exempt, Congress is exempt and so is anyone who “knows someone” in the White House. The rest of us are screwed.
I just have this to ask those who have gotten an exemption. If Obamacare is so wonderful that you all fought (contributed) to have it passed, why do you want an exemption?
