I love her, don’t get me wrong ~ she IS my BFF, but doesn’t she have any other friends? I went to an event at the Nixon Library Monday night, and she had to tag along. Then, Sunday, I went to an event at USC, sponsored by Hancock Park Patriots, USC College Republicans, San Fernando Valley Republican Club, Downtown Lincoln Club, and TeaPAC, and she had to come to that, too. At the cocktail party before the event, she kept wanting pictures taken of us. I introduced her to some people, so, hopefully, she’ll expand her circle of friends. She is a sweet thing….. And my BFF.
Despite threats from elements in the USC community, and some nefarious facebook posts, the Ann Coulter event came off without incident. There were a handful of protestors with hand-lettered signs across from the check-in tables, but that was the extent of any disruption. Their signs said she lies, but, as usual, they did not say about what, specifically.
Always gracious and friendly, Ann circulated among the guests at the Meet-and-Greet party before her talk. She was endlessly patient, and attentive to everyone. She happily stood for pictures, and listened to stories people wanted to share with her. I noticed at least three people giving her books they had written, and she accepted them all with appreciation.
The auditorium held about five hundred, and was pretty much full. Even in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Los Angeles, there are plenty of right-leaning people hungry for conservative conversation. I have always appreciated Ann, because, unlike the leftist political analysts, she is never harsh or confrontational. She is smart, and funny, and able to deflect irrational liberals with charm. That is a real gift.
Ann is on tour to promote her latest book, “Never Trust A Liberal Over 3 – Especially a Republican.” Seven of Ann’s books have been on the New York Times bestseller list ~ that must mean there are still Conservatives in this country. This book is a collection of past columns. She pointed out that she could just re-release her columns every few months, since the left never stops pushing their agenda. If we defeat some program or policy, they just wait a little while, and bring it back again. Amnesty is a good example. Print the amnesty columns AGAIN!
While Ann has detractors even among Conservatives, I’m still a big fan, even if I disagree with some of her positions. I passionately disagreed with her early support of Chris Christie, but she has now had her come-to-Jesus moment, and is fully repentant. Unlike the left, Ann is willing to admit when she is wrong.
I was taken aback to learn she didn’t know Jim DeMint founded the Senate Conservatives Fund. She said she looked it up, and couldn’t find who was behind it. I had no trouble finding this information on google. I was puzzled by her suspicion it was funded by Soros. Although I have no doubt there are duplicitous groups with Conservative-sounding names that are funded by dear Mr. Soros, SCF is not one of them. Hopefully, Ann’s confusion was due to her hectic schedule. The well-known quote about a person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time being a friend and an ally — not a 20 percent traitor is often attributed to President Reagan, and I embrace the premise, because, after all, Ann IS my BFF.
